The Position

Novo Nordisk is seeking a highly motivated formulation scientist to join its Drug Product Research department in Lexington, Massachusetts. The candidate will be responsible for the formulation and characterization of peptides, proteins, small molecules, and bioconjugates. This position will support therapeutic programs in multiple disease areas and will contribute to the development of novel drug delivery platforms.

Relationships

This position reports to the Head of Advanced Drug Delivery (Drug Product Research). Internal relationships include project teams and research colleagues both in Seattle, Indianapolis and around the globe. Communicates data externally when required. Individual Contributor: does not manage other employees or contingent workers.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare peptide and protein injectable formulations for in vitro and in vivo studies including selection of buffers, excipients, surfactants and conducting the relevant biophysical characterization and stability studies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the selected dosage form meets the desired biophysical and biochemical profile and contribute to early screening strategies and execution
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in biophysics and formulation-based drug delivery technologies and evaluate the potential benefits and applicability of new technologies to enhance formulation and characterization capabilities
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab instruments such as biophysical characterization equipment and drug product manufacturing processes
  • Implement and operate automation solutions for performing high throughput biophysical screening and formulation preparation
  • Conduct laboratory work in a safe, efficient manner that ensures a safe working environment for colleagues


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Degree within subject matter expertise (biological, biochemical, or pharmacological sciences) preferred
  • 4+ years’ relevant technical experience required or Master’s degree within subject matter expertise can be considered
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in biophysical characterization and injectable formulation development
  • Experience with spectroscopy, calorimetry, light scattering, and other biophysical methods for peptide and protein injectable formulations is a plus
  • Proficient in data analysis and interpretation for drawing conclusions and making recommendations
  • Experience in managing projects and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent scientific communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders effectively
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document experimental work with electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN)
  • General knowledge of cGMP, GLP, and regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical industries a plus


The base compensation range for this position is $68,370 to $119,650. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.

Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
