Job summary

University of Michigan’s Michigan Engineering division seeks a Lead Research Administrator to manage pre- and post-award activities for Optics and CUOS. You will work closely with faculty, develop itemized budgets, monitor expenses, and prepare monthly financial reports to keep projects on track.

Hybrid/remote work is available with in-person finance meetings as needed. A background in sponsored projects and compliance is essential to ensure fund accountability and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in related position or an accounting background/experience.
• Familiarity with university policies and procedures related to sponsored projects.
• Demonstrated ability to think through and anticipate departmental needs.
• Proven ability to work well with others especially under pressure of deadlines.
• Ability to work well independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

• Financial reconciliation and forecasting for sponsored and general funding.
• Develop, prepare and submit proposals with multi-site budgets and sponsor agreements.
• Track and oversee project financial status; provide monthly reports for investigators.
• Oversee post-award changes, purchasing orders, and subcontracts within the department system.
• Organize meetings and conferences from implementation to completion; ensure sponsor reporting compliance.
• Assist with ad hoc reports required by faculty or Research Administration Senior Manager.
