Job summary

LMI is seeking a Senior Requirements Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team supporting the DHS CBP PMO in Washington, DC. The role focuses on defining and translating user needs into technical requirements for sensor and surveillance systems, guiding development, and enabling effective deployment.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years in applied engineering or systems development, familiarity with DHS/DOD acquisition processes, and strong analytical/communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in applied engineering, technology evaluation, or systems development.
• Familiarity with DHS or DOD acquisition processes, including SELC and test planning.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and technical writing skills.
• Experience working across technical and operational teams in mission-driven environments.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a CBP Background Investigation (BI) is required; active CBP BI preferred.

Responsibilities

• Define requirements for the systems and products required by users and other stakeholders, including communications, sensor and surveillance technologies.
• Document the user and stakeholder requirements for the desired systems or products and iteratively reviewing and refining the requirements as details are known.
• Transform the user requirements into technical requirements in the context of planned use, environments, and identified system characteristics.
• Establish project requirements baselines and analyze requirements to identify deficiencies and cost drivers.
• Decompose high-level functions into lower-level functions and document with diagrams and data/control flows.
• Conduct trade studies to support functional allocation of requirements and evaluate architectures and solution sets.
• Perform Analysis of Alternatives (AoA); Alternative Analysis (AA); and DOTMLPF to identify potential solutions.
• Document outcomes in Functional Requirements Documents, Constraint Evaluation Analyses, Cost Benefit Reports, or Trade Studies Reports.
• Prepare and update Requirements Analysis Reports and related documentation.
