Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Pr. Eng. registration with ECSA mandatory.
• Minimum 7 years civil engineering experience, 3+ years in renewable energy.
• Proficiency in geotechnical investigations, analysis and foundation design.
• Experience with SAP2000, ETABS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D.
• Knowledge of South African building codes and renewable energy standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering design for renewable energy projects including site layout, access roads and drainage systems.
• Conduct geotechnical investigations and foundation design for solar and wind structures.
• Design infrastructure such as substations and cable trenching systems.

About the Role

Our client, a leading consultancy in the renewable energy sector, is seeking a Senior Renewable Energy Civil Engineer to join their team in Upington , Northern Cape. This role focuses on the civil engineering aspects of large-scale renewable energy projects, including solar farms and wind farms. You will be responsible for site assessment, foundation design, infrastructure planning (roads, drainage, electrical substations), and construction supervision. The position requires a strong understanding of geotechnical principles, structural design for renewable energy infrastructure, and a commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in managing complex civil works for energy projects in challenging environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the civil engineering design for renewable energy projects, including site layout, access roads, and drainage systems.
• Conduct geotechnical investigations and foundation design for solar panel mounting structures and wind turbine bases.
• Design associated infrastructure such as control buildings, substations, and cable trenching systems.
• Perform structural analysis for equipment supports and ancillary structures.
• Develop civil engineering specifications, drawings, and bill of quantities.
• Manage civil works contracts and oversee construction activities on site.
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, environmental regulations, and project specifications.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and environmental consultants.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Master's degree with a focus on Geotechnical or Structural Engineering is advantageous.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in civil engineering, with at least 3 years specifically in the renewable energy sector (solar or wind).
• Proficiency in geotechnical investigation, analysis, and foundation design.
• Experience with structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
• Knowledge of South African building codes and renewable energy project development standards.
• Proven project management and construction supervision skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client management skills.
• Willingness to travel extensively to project sites in remote locations.
• Valid driver's license.
