Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Staff Analysis Engineer to provide technical leadership in structural and/or thermal‑fluids analysis for aerospace vehicles and propulsion systems. You will work across engines, stages, and supporting systems, guiding verification, validation, and design feedback.

This role may be remote or based at our Berthoud, Colorado facility. You will mentor engineers, improve analysis methods, and collaborate with design, systems, and manufacturing to meet requirements and dispose

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• ~10+ years of structural and/or thermal‑fluids analysis on vehicles/propulsion systems.
• Strong background in structural mechanics and/or fluids, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
• Experience with FEA/FEM using ANSYS, Abaqus, or NASTRAN‑based solvers.
• Ability to anchor analytical/ CFD models to test data.
• Fatigue and fracture experience; NASGRO or similar tools beneficial.
• Experience with CFD and 1D fluid modeling tools.
• Programming skills for automation and data processing (Python preferred).
• Strong written and verbal communication; comfortable in fast-paced startup environment on safety‑critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate designs with static, dynamic, fatigue, and/or fracture analyses.
• Develop FEM/FEA models for vehicles and propulsion systems.
• Perform thermal‑structural and/or coupled thermal‑stress analyses; support vibration analysis.
• Verify analytical models against test data; collaborate with test teams on instrumentation.
• Use hand calculations and CFD to assess fluid behavior in engine/vehicle systems.
• Build 1D fluid models to predict transients and startup/shutdown.
• Collaborate with design, systems, and manufacturing to meet requirements and disposition nonconforming hardware.
• Support failure investigations through modeling and root‑cause analysis.
• Improve analysis methods, workflows, and toolsets; mentor team members.
