Job summary

Silmaril is building a macOS app and seeks a hands-on QA engineer to own compatibility across Mac hardware, macOS releases, and enterprise deployments. You will move between Macs, MDM consoles, logs, automation, and product code to understand real-environment behavior and report findings clearly.

You will shape a robust compatibility program, set test coverage, and use AI to extend testing scope while keeping critical human judgment in testing. Remote work options are available.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of experience in QA engineering or related role.
• Test native macOS software on real Macs across OS versions and hardware.
• Hands-on experience deploying/troubleshooting macOS through at least one major MDM (Jamf Pro, Intune, Kandji or Mosyle).
• Inspect logs, write scripts, build automation, investigate failures beyond surface symptoms.
• Produce clear, reproducible bug reports and prioritize test matrix when coverage is limited.
• Own the full release experience from fresh MDM deployment to updates.

Responsibilities

• Define a risk-based test matrix across macOS versions, Silicon/Intel, and MDM platforms.
• Build and maintain test environments in Jamf Pro and Microsoft Intune with Kandji/Mosyle coverage.
• Validate installation, enrollment, updates, removal, reinstalls, and macOS upgrades.
• Investigate permissions, profiles, and OS behavior to distinguish defects from packaging issues.
• Automate repeatable checks and evidence collection while preserving hands-on coverage.
• Turn incompatibilities into precise bug reports with steps, logs, and configuration details.
