Job summary

ALSO is seeking a Reliability Engineer in Palo Alto to define reliability targets and develop tests for EV components. The role involves setting up accelerated life tests, analyzing results, and guiding cross-functional teams on failure modes and design improvements.

A BS in engineering with 2+ years in reliability is expected, with strong Python and statistical tooling skills. The onsite role may offer limited remote flexibility as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline; 2+ years in reliability engineering.
  • Experience with PCBA reliability, energy storage systems, drive units, and chassis components.
  • Coding in Python; familiarity with statistics software.
  • Experience with SEM, CT, X-Ray, EDS, TDR for failure analysis.
  • Ability to use instrumentation for data collection (thermocouples, strain gauges, accelerometers).
  • Experience with reliability testing guidelines and new testing approaches.

  • Establish reliability targets and metrics for new product development.
  • Develop reliability test procedures and specifications (ALT, environmental testing).
  • Apply acceleration models to predict lifetime under stress.
  • Prepare and analyze test plans and reports; track testing campaigns progress.
  • Guide cross-functional teams on failure modes and design guidelines; conduct risk analysis.
  • Monitor field performance and identify failure trends.
  • Lead and facilitate FMEAs and develop verification plans.

What You Will Do
  • Establish reliability targets and metrics for new product development that include actuators, batteries, drive units, PCBAs, chassis, and various low voltage electronic systems.
  • Develop new reliability tests procedures and specifications such as highly accelerated life testing, environmental testing, and other reliability tests to demonstrate reliability.
  • Apply various types of acceleration models for creation of reliability tests to accurately predict product lifetime under accelerated stress conditions.
  • Prepare concise and detailed test plans and analyze test reports. Provide updates and progress on various testing campaigns.
  • Guide the engineering teams on failure modes, typical countermeasures for reliability failures, and design guidelines. Provide risk analysis to guide design decisions.
  • Monitor field performance and identify trends in failure.
  • Leading and facilitating FMEAs with cross-functional teams and developing design verification plans from these activities.
What You Will Bring
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline or equivalent. 2 or more years of industry experience in a reliability engineering role.
  • Technical knowledge of one or more aspects related to PCBA reliability, energy storage systems, drive units, and chassis components.
  • Working knowledge of a coding language, preferably Python.
  • Working knowledge of statistical software for reliability, such as JMP or the ReliaSoft suite, or MATLAB.
  • Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as SEM, CT, X-Ray, EDS, TDR.
  • Experience with instrumentations for data collection and testing such as thermocouples, strain gauges, accelerometers.
  • Experience with deploying reliability testing guidelines and inventing new ways of testing.
  • Ability to use FEA software (Eg. Ansys Sherlock) for product life prediction in creation of reliability tests.

Location: This is an onsite position requiring attendance in the office five (5) days per week. Once fully ramped and in alignment with their manager, employees may have the opportunity for limited flexibility, including the potential to work remotely one day per week, based on business and team needs.
