Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Senior Managing Scientist (Regulatory) to lead the Chemical Regulation and Food Safety Practice with a flexible location.

You will provide strategic regulatory oversight for complex client engagements, lead multidisciplinary teams, drive growth through business development, mentor staff, and expand Exponent's presence in regulatory, product stewardship, and sustainability marketplaces.

Qualifications

• BS degree is required. MS or PhD preferred in a science-related field.
• Ten (10) or more years of EPA TSCA regulatory experience with knowledge of U.S. EPA TSCA regulations for chemicals.
• Ten (10) or more years of consulting or government regulatory experience.
• Proven track record of business generation and attracting new and repeat clients or funding.
• Extensive background in regulatory compliance and risk assessment related to product stewardship and sustainability.
• Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to independently prepare, edit, and proofread technical and regulatory documents.
• Must be detail-oriented, able to work independently, and manage time effectively.
• Strong ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
• Experience with project management, budget tracking, and invoicing a plus.
• Exposure to sensitive information will necessitate tact, diplomacy, discretion, and judgment.

Responsibilities

• Leveraging deep knowledge of product stewardship and sustainability to address a wide range of complex challenges, delivering scientifically rigorous solutions
• Developing clients through business development and marketing efforts
• Conducting regulatory compliance and risk assessments to support product stewardship and sustainability initiatives
• Maintaining and growing trusted relationships with existing clients by delivering high-quality work and acting as a strategic advisor
• Managing and tracking client projects, project deliverables, invoices, and budgets
• Providing regulatory and technical review and quality control support for projects
• Synthesizing technical and regulatory information for clients and regulators
• Providing scientific technical peer review
• Mentoring junior staff
