Job summary

TotalEnergies Gas & Power North America, Inc. seeks a seasoned regulatory and compliance lawyer to guide and support its U.S. trading and marketing operations across natural gas, LNG, dry bulk, and power markets.

The role requires 6–8+ years in a law firm or in-house setting, with strong knowledge of CFTC, FERC, and ISO/RTO rules. You will work with traders, risk managers, and senior leaders to manage regulatory risk and ensure compliance in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree and Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; admission in Texas or New York preferred.
• 6-8+ years of relevant legal experience in energy trading and marketing.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory framework governing energy trading, including FERC and CFTC rules.
• Experience advising on CFTC regulations, Natural Gas Act, Federal Power Act, and ISO/RTO market rules.
• Solid understanding of complex energy trading and marketing transactions, including risk management.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven ability to collaborate with traders, risk management, compliance, and senior leaders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as subject matter expert on regulatory and compliance matters affecting TGPNA’s business activities, including compliance with CFTC regulations, the Commodity Exchange Act, Natural Gas Act, Federal Power Act, Dodd-Frank Act, ERCOT Protocols, PJM Rules, and CAISO market requirements.
• Provide strategic regulatory guidance and day-to-day support to Market Compliance, Operational Compliance, Legal, and ISO Account Management teams.
• Support new product approval by identifying regulatory considerations and implementing compliance controls.
• Analyze and communicate impact of evolving regulations on trading, marketing, and operations.
• Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and internal controls for regulatory compliance.
• Partner with Compliance to design training programs on regulatory obligations and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with TotalEnergies’ U.S. affiliates to promote consistent regulatory approach.
• Manage relationships with external counsel and regulators in rate cases, proceedings, investigations, and other matters.
• Monitor regulatory developments and provide timely guidance to stakeholders.
• Conduct research and provide analysis on Jones Act, EU Methane Regulation, renewable energy certifications, etc.
• Review regulatory support for transactional agreements and documentation.
