Job summary

Northwell Health in the United States seeks a Registered Dietitian to lead the nutritional care of patients, plan and evaluate care plans, and support clinical teams in diet-related decisions.

The role requires a Master’s degree or equivalent, current RD certification, CDN as needed, and 3–5 years of experience, with oncology experience highly preferred. This on-site hospital role emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration and patient education.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Current Registered Dietitian Certification with the Commissions on Dietetic Registration, required.
  • Certified Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN), as needed.
  • Advanced/specialized certifications, as needed.
  • 3-5 Years Of Relevant Experience, Required.
  • Oncology experience, highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • May mentor and train team members.
  • Responsible for accurately and responsively performing varied and moderately complex to complex clinical tasks.
  • Requires minimal instruction on day-to- day work & general direction on more complex tasks and projects.
  • May assist team members with more complicated procedures and tasks.
  • Assists clinical team members and department or unit management in determining methods and procedures for new tasks.
  • Collaborates with senior team members to develop/validate methods, techniques & analytical approaches.
  • Interviews patient and/or family for nutritional history, obtains patient food preferences, assesses patients, and documents in patients’ medical record.
  • Guides and conducts assessments of documents in patients' medical records, according to hospital policies and procedures, and recommends nutrition care plans to medical staff for review and consideration.
  • Recommends and communicates therapeutic diet modifications and/or supplemental feedings to physicians for patients, and ensures accuracy of diet order received by checking against physician’s order.
  • Provides nutritional guidance, education and counseling to patients and their families in accordance with the prescribed diet.
  • Calculates nutrient content of tube feeding and dietary intakes as ordered by physicians.
  • Contributes to changes to the patient’s menu/nutritional analysis, including patient food preferences, the development of standardized recipes.
  • Prepares, presents, and conducts individual and group education classes, and refers clients to community services, as needed.
  • Develops and utilizes effective lines of communication regarding nutrition information within the program and community.
  • Guides and provides in-services to culinary, food service and interdisciplinary teams regarding therapeutic diets and related topics.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement related tasks including data collection while executeing and making recommendations on new processes, tools and tasks related to it, as directed.
  • Assists and participates with regulatory compliance.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Education
