Job summary

Quantum-Si in San Diego, CA is seeking an experienced instrument control software engineer to join our instrument software team. You will design, develop, and maintain software for advanced life science instruments, spanning hardware interfaces, data acquisition, and automation.

You will work across the stack from low-level hardware integration to distributed services and user-facing applications, shaping architecture for next-generation instruments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/EE or related field.
  • 5+ years in software development with a focus on C#
  • Experience with .NET 6+ for cross-platform apps
  • Familiarity with Linux (Ubuntu preferred)
  • Proficiency with Git and Agile workflows
  • Experience with automated testing (unit/integration) and CI/CD
  • Experience with multi-threaded programming and real-time data acquisition
  • Experience with RPC frameworks (gRPC)
  • Proven track record in software architecture improvement and debt management
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Experience debugging, profiling, and optimizing software

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software for the instrument, ensuring high performance and reliability.
  • Develop and integrate data acquisition, motion control, signal processing, data analysis, and automated workflows for a complex instrument.
  • Collaborate with systems integration and engineering teams to define and implement new instrument functionality.
  • Refactor and improve software architecture to enhance maintainability and reduce technical debt.
  • Document software designs, code, and processes for clarity and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot and debug software issues, providing timely resolutions.
