Job summary

Redwood Materials is seeking a Staff Controls Engineer to design, build, and scale advanced control systems for our battery recycling facilities. You will work at the intersection of chemical process engineering, industrial automation, and software development, delivering robust real‑time control software and instrumentation systems.

You will lead architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate across cross‑functional teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Experience in real-time or embedded C++ development.
• Experience designing industrial control panels.
• Proficiency with Python for automation.
• Hands-on experience with Structured Text for PLCs.
• Knowledge of industrial protocols (Modbus, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, PROFINET).

Responsibilities

• Design and implement real‑time C++ control software for embedded systems.
• Develop automation tools, diagnostics, and scripts in Python.
• Write Structured Text for PLCs and industrial controllers.
• Design UL508A‑compliant control panels including HV/LV distribution.
• Build deterministic control loops and state machines.
• Integrate software with sensors, actuators, drives, and networks.
• Debug timing, concurrency, hardware interfaces, and protocols.
• Lead system architecture decisions for control platforms.
• Perform root‑cause analysis and implement long‑term fixes.
• Mentor engineers in real‑time programming and PLC development.
