Job summary

Redwood Materials seeks a Staff Controls Engineer to design, commission, and scale real-time control systems for our battery recycling facilities, blending chemical process engineering, industrial automation, and software development to improve safety and throughput.

You will implement C++ real-time software for embedded systems, develop Python automation tools, write Structured Text for PLCs, and lead architecture decisions while mentoring engineers.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in modern C++ for real-time or embedded systems.

Responsibilities

• Design real-time control software in C++ for embedded and industrial systems.
• Develop automation tools in Python for diagnostics and orchestration.
• Write Structured Text (IEC 61131-3) for PLCs and industrial controllers.
• Design UL508A compliant control panels including HV/LV distribution and instrumentation.
• Build deterministic control loops and state machines for safety-critical routines.
• Integrate software with sensors, actuators, drives, and industrial networks.
• Lead system architecture decisions for control platforms and distributed automation.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and implement long-term fixes in field issues.
• Mentor engineers in real-time programming and industrial best practices.
