Job summary

Durham County Government's Tax Administration seeks an experienced professional to manage the assessment of all real property in Durham County under the Machinery Act and to apply the Schedule of Values to each property.

This role operates independently with limited supervision, supervises staff, coordinates work, reviews valuations, and responds to taxpayers. A bachelor's degree in a related field and relevant appraisal experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration or related field.
• Six years of real or personal property appraisal or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Strong knowledge of the North Carolina Machinery Act and local regulations.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff and performance.
• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and schedules; maintains standards.
• Reviews real property values for over/under valuations.
• Responds to taxpayers' email requests, calls and mail for valuations.
• Provides guidance for solving issues for appraisal staff.
• Manages the Present Use Value Agricultural, horticultural and forestry program.
• Serves as the clerk to the Board of Equalization and Review.
• Performs related work as assigned.
