Job summary

Lennar is seeking a Director/Assistant General Counsel, Real Estate, to provide practical legal guidance on land acquisition, development, title, and related real estate matters across divisions.

The role involves drafting and negotiating complex transaction documents, managing outside counsel, and aligning with internal teams to move projects forward, with focus on risk management and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 10–15 years of legal experience with heavy real estate / land development focus.
• Strong drafting and negotiating of acquisition documents and related diligence.
• Ability to advise senior leaders with clear, risk-balanced guidance in a fast-paced environment.
• In-house experience with homebuilder/land developer or similar preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical, timely, business-oriented legal advice on land acquisition, land banking, land development, title, entitlement, construction, and related real estate matters.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage purchase and sale agreements and other transaction documents through closing.
• Support all phases of the transaction lifecycle from LOIs to post-closing obligations.
• Partner with internal teams to identify issues and keep transactions moving efficiently.
• Review title commitments, surveys, plats, covenants, HOA/CC&Rs, and development documents for risk and closing conditions.
• Manage outside counsel including scope, work product, and cost discipline.
• Prepare packages for internal approvals, closing checklists, and dispute strategy.
• Help develop forms, playbooks, and training to improve processes and risk management across transactions.
