Brightline is seeking a Full Stack Ruby on Rails Principal Software Engineer to steer technical direction and deepen expertise in healthcare workflows while elevating the engineering team. We favor straightforward solutions with a simple stack (Ruby on Rails, Turbo, Tailwind, ViewComponent, Stimulus, and optional React/TypeScript).

You will drive architecture, mentor teammates, and partner with product/design to deliver high-quality, scalable systems that impact pediatric mental health care.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical direction for cross-cutting systems — data modeling, API design, clinical workflow architecture, and integration patterns.
• Scope and shape work end-to-end: identify problems and define done with product/design.
• Write code across the stack (Ruby on Rails backend, Turbo/Tailwind frontend) with reusable abstractions.
• Evaluate technical risk and tradeoffs; know when to invest in architecture vs a simple solution.
• Mentor the team via architecture discussions, pairing, code review, and high standards.
• Build deep domain expertise to advocate for provider and member experience.
• Collaborate across engineering, product, design, and clinical teams to serve business and clinical goals.
