Brightline, a pediatric mental health care provider, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to set technical direction across the platform. You will own complex systems from data modeling to API design and mentor teams, shipping robust healthcare workflows.

You’ll work primarily with Ruby on Rails on the backend, with Turbo/Tailwind on the frontend, and Shape Up–esque practices to balance speed and quality.

Qualifications

• Significant professional Ruby on Rails experience with impact beyond code.
• Ability to influence technical direction and system-wide decisions.
• Strong systems thinking with clear tradeoff communication to stakeholders.
• Mentor and elevate team through architecture discussions and reviews.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical direction for cross-cutting systems including data modeling and API design.
• Scope and shape work end-to-end with product and design teams.
• Write code across the stack (Ruby on Rails backend, Turbo/Tailwind frontend).
• Evaluate risk and tradeoffs, investing in architecture when needed.
• Mentor the team through architecture discussions, pairing, and code reviews.
• Develop domain expertise to challenge product assumptions and surface risks.
• Collaborate across engineering, product, design, and clinical teams.
