Job summary

Tangent Energy Solutions, a Caterpillar subsidiary based near Kennett Square, PA, is seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Developer to design and maintain Rails applications in the energy space and to deploy to AWS. The role is full-time and in-office, reporting Monday through Friday to the Kennett Square office.

You will collaborate with business stakeholders, design ML-ready data pipelines, participate in system architecture, ensure code quality with tests and reviews, and mentor junior developers

Qualifications

• Expert-level Rails knowledge (7+) and core libraries.
• Strong automated testing skills (RSpec, Capybara).
• Experience deploying containerized Rails apps to AWS.
• Solid understanding of web architecture and OOP/design patterns.
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub Enterprise/Actions.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development and agentic programming.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Ruby on Rails applications in the energy space.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define, plan, and deliver features.
• Design and implement ML-ready data pipelines.
• Participate in system architecture and design decisions.
• Ensure code quality via tests, reviews, and best practices.
• Assist in shared DevOps duties including infra management and deployment.
• Refactor core components to improve efficiency and reduce tech debt.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and mentor junior developers.
• Apply AI tools to analyze and implement new features.
• Develop AI skills and tools to improve development processes.
