Job summary

Hatch in Seattle, WA, is seeking a Senior Rail Vehicle Electrical Engineer - Software to lead software engineering efforts for rail vehicle systems. The role requires guiding QA, IEEE/EN standard compliance, and cross-project collaboration within the Vehicle Electrical Engineering group.

Ideal candidates will have 10+ years in software engineering/QA, strong communication, and the ability to mentor engineers while applying AI tooling where relevant. Relocation assistance may be available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
• 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering and software quality assurance.
• Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a team and communicate with both technical and non-technical client personnel.
• EIT/PE is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support rail transit agencies in the procurement of rail vehicles and systems through establishing requirements, participating in technical design reviews, and supporting software quality assurance efforts.
• Develop technical specifications for software included in new and upgraded rail vehicle equipment and systems.
• Analyze and apply IEEE and EN software standards to rail transit procurements.
• Evaluate supplier proposals for compliance with specification system and software requirements.
• Provide cogent analysis based on specification requirements for software submittals.
• Conduct Software Quality Assurance Audits at supplier sites.
• Witness software and system-level equipment tests.
• Lead a group of Vehicle Electrical Engineers in reviews and cross-project cohesion.
• Ensure latest software industry best practices are applied to all projects.
• Mentor and train engineers in latest software innovations, including AI software coding tools.
