Job summary

Burns Engineering is seeking a Senior Systems Engineering Specialist to join the Signals, Communications & Train Control team in Pittsburgh or Philadelphia, PA. You will lead requirements, architecture, interface coordination, and verification for complex rail signaling systems.

The role demands extensive railroad engineering experience (10+ years) with PTC, ATC/CBTC, and large-scale projects, plus strong stakeholder collaboration and mentoring capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; PE licensure a plus.
• 10+ years of progressive railroad engineering experience, with system engineering focus.
• Experience with PTC, ATC/CBTC and large-scale rail projects; strong regulatory knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead systems engineering for complex rail signaling projects, including requirements, design, verification, and integration.
• Develop and manage system requirements with traceability, change control, and stakeholder alignment.
• Develop architecture and allocate functions to support train control implementations.
• Lead interface identification and coordination across subsystems and stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and mentor junior staff; support project planning and risk management.
