ConSol Partners in the USA is seeking a Senior Rail Infrastructure Asset Management Consultant to join a hybrid advisory and technical environment. You will lead projects on railway infrastructure maintenance performance, asset management strategies, and long-term investment planning.

The role requires extensive hands-on knowledge of railway assets, and a track record of delivering practical, sustainable solutions to complex infrastructure challenges for rail and transit organisations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Transportation, Asset Management or another relevant technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in railway infrastructure, maintenance engineering or asset management.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of railway infrastructure assets and maintenance challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to projects focused on railway infrastructure, maintenance performance and asset management.
  • Review and develop strategies for maintaining and managing infrastructure assets over the short and long term.
  • Develop maintenance approaches including planned, predictive, condition-based and reactive maintenance.
  • Define and review inspection requirements, maintenance intervals, and intervention strategies.
  • Support long-term asset planning, including renewal programmes and investment priorities.
  • Turn technical findings into clear recommendations for senior decision-makers.
  • Produce high-quality reports and presentations for client teams.
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues where appropriate.

We are recruiting for a senior rail infrastructure professional to join a growing advisory and technical consulting environment.

This opportunity would suit someone with extensive experience in railway infrastructure maintenance and asset management who enjoys combining technical expertise with strategic problem-solving. You will work with rail and transit organisations on complex infrastructure challenges, helping to improve asset performance, maintenance planning and long-term investment decisions.

The Opportunity

You will take a leading role in delivering advisory and improvement projects across the rail infrastructure sector. Working with a range of stakeholders, you will assess current approaches, identify opportunities for improvement and help develop practical, sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to projects focused on railway infrastructure, maintenance performance and asset management.
  • Review and develop strategies for maintaining and managing infrastructure assets over the short and long term.
  • Develop practical maintenance approaches incorporating planned, predictive, condition-led and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Define and review inspection requirements, maintenance intervals, intervention strategies and resource needs.
  • Support long-term asset planning, including renewal programmes, replacement strategies, investment priorities and whole-life cost considerations.
  • Assess existing maintenance operations, processes, systems and technical capabilities and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop recommendations relating to organisational structures, governance, responsibilities, processes, performance measures and operating standards.
  • Compare existing practices against recognised industry standards and leading approaches from the wider rail sector.
  • Consider the impact of infrastructure condition and maintenance activity on operational performance, reliability, availability, safety and cost.
  • Manage technical work packages and bring together specialists from different engineering and operational disciplines.
  • Turn technical findings and complex analysis into clear recommendations for senior decision-makers.
  • Produce high-quality reports, presentations and other project deliverables.
  • Build effective working relationships with client teams and senior industry stakeholders.
  • Contribute to identifying new opportunities and supporting the development of proposals and project approaches.
  • Support the continued development of tools, methodologies and technical capabilities within the wider team.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced colleagues where appropriate.
What We're Looking For
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Transportation, Asset Management or another relevant technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in railway infrastructure, maintenance engineering, infrastructure asset management or a related area.
  • Strong hands-on and technical understanding of railway infrastructure assets and the challenges associated with maintaining them.
Experience across a range of infrastructure disciplines would be beneficial, such as:
  • Permanent way / track
  • Civil and structural infrastructure
  • Signalling and train control systems
  • Telecommunications and communications
  • Electrification and traction power
  • Stations and wider operational infrastructure
You should have a strong understanding of:
  • Infrastructure maintenance planning and optimisation.
  • Planned, predictive, condition-based and corrective maintenance methodologies.
  • Asset lifecycle and whole-life management.
  • Renewal, replacement and long-term investment planning.
  • Asset prioritisation and lifecycle cost analysis.
  • Asset management principles, governance and performance measurement.
  • Maintenance plans, technical standards and inspection programmes.
  • Resource planning and maintenance scheduling.
  • The relationship between asset condition, maintenance, operational performance, reliability, availability and safety.
