Job summary

RTX is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in Portsmouth, RI, to join the Hardware and Infrastructure team. The role focuses on COTS hardware design, testing, and integration for next‑gen RADAR solutions, with a current Secret clearance and potential travel.

You will bridge cross-functional teams, design and prototype in a lab, and ensure on-time delivery within scope and quality. Onsite work is required with relocation offered based on eligibility.

Qualifications

  • STEM degree and 5+ years of relevant experience (or advanced degree with 3+ years).
  • Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Lab environment experience with oscilloscopes, bus analyzers, emulators, data capture tools.
  • Ability to take a concept to a complete COTS-based hardware design and verify with test plans.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design COTS hardware infrastructure systems (X86-based processors).
  • Research and select servers, workstations, interfaces, storage, and other COTS hardware.
  • Engineer BIOS and operating system configuration definitions.

Job Summary

The Undersea and Electronics Systems (UES) Department in Portsmouth, RI is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with strong COTS computing and networking background to join our Hardware and Infrastructure team implementing the next generation RADAR solutions. The desired candidate has a current Secret clearance, is highly technical, and able to work with minimal oversight as well as the ability to manage projects. This individual will act as a key liaison between cross‑functional teams, ensuring technical solutions are delivered on time, within scope and meet quality standards.

What You Will Do
  • Design COTS hardware infrastructure systems (e.g. X86-based processors)
  • Research and selection of servers, workstations, add‑in interface cards, storage devices, and other COTS hardware
  • Engineer BIOS and operating system configuration definitions
  • Work in a lab environment and operate standard test equipment including oscilloscopes, processor bus analyzers, emulators, and data capture tools, etc.
  • System prototyping and integration in the lab
  • Collaborate in development with hardware engineering disciplines, supply chain, suppliers, field engineering, on‑site installation and trades, and Customers to develop and deliver safety critical systems
  • Support occasional domestic travel and potential international travel
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years’ experience
  • Experience with emerging and legacy hardware and software, including Unix and Linux operating systems
  • Experience working in a lab environment and operating standard test equipment including oscilloscopes, processor bus analyzers, emulators, and data capture tools, etc.
  • Experience with taking a system design concept from the block diagram or requirements level and developing a complete COTS‑based hardware design and then verifying the design via integration and test plans and activities
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience developing and implementing computing, networking, and information technology infrastructure through a rigorous design and documentation process
  • Experience collaborating in development with hardware engineering disciplines, supply chain, suppliers, field engineering, on‑site installation and trades, and Customers to develop and deliver safety critical systems
  • Current or in‑progress computing/networking certification(s) (e.g. CCNA, AWS, CISSP)
  • Experience with RADAR system hardware
  • Experience with Firewall design and configuration
  • Experience implementing Security Technical Implementation guides and network hardening
  • Experience with system level hardware integration and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in agile hardware and software development and management using SCRUM.
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays.
