Job summary

Georgia-Pacific’s Neenah Technical Center seeks a Senior R&D Engineer in Converting to advance tissue-based products. You’ll study how tissue structure and material properties interact with converting operations, using hands-on equipment, lab experiments, and data-driven analysis to drive process improvements.

You will collaborate across Operations, Engineering, and Product Development to translate findings into scalable, market-ready technologies, mentoring teams and exploring new opportunities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in materials science, materials engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, paper science or related field.
• 5+ years of relevant R&D experience in converting, web-based manufacturing, or related areas.
• Hands-on experience planning and executing lab or pilot experiments and scaling concepts toward commercialization.
• Experience with DOE, ANOVA, or regression for experimental analysis.
• Ability to synthesize complex data into clear technical recommendations and documentation.
• Willing and able to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Lead research linking tissue-sheet structure and material properties with converting operations to improve product performance.
• Design and execute rigorous lab and pilot-scale studies using the scientific method and statistical planning.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Product Development to translate lab insights into commercially viable tissue-converting technologies.
• Design, prototype, and evaluate tissue-converting components and equipment concepts.
• Serve as a technical leader, mentoring colleagues and guiding product and process decisions.
• Collaborate with universities, suppliers, and OEMs to accelerate learning.
• Identify and protect intellectual property through disclosures and patent applications.
• Use economic thinking to prioritize opportunities and communicate progress to stakeholders.
