Job summary
ABB's Electrification Distribution Solutions in Mebane, NC is seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to lead the development of next-generation medium voltage switchgear solutions. You will drive projects from concept through prototyping to production, mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with global teams to deliver industry-leading designs.
You will validate product robustness with simulations, tests, and analyses, perform design reviews, and ensure compliance with ANSI/IEEE, NEMA, and UL
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of R&D experience in electrical power equipment.
- Experience with mechanical design of MV ANSI switchgear or MCCs.
- Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE, NEMA, and UL standards.
- Experience performing type tests in labs.
- Proficient in 3D CAD and PLM tools.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of new product designs (Mechanical/Electrical).
- Collaborate with PMs and R&D to incorporate customer feedback.
- Validate robustness via simulations, analyses, and tests.
- Organize design reviews for feasibility and cost.
- Review test plans and ensure ANSI/IEEE/CSA compliance.
