Job summary

Quantinuum in Broomfield, CO seeks a Sr R&D Manager to lead a diverse team focused on trapped-ion quantum computer designs and hardware. The role combines technical leadership and people management, mentoring junior staff, and improving system development processes for future product generations.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree and extensive experience in AMO/QC systems, with a strong emphasis on hands-on leadership and cross-disciplinary collaboration within a global quantum computing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree minimum.
• 8+ years of experience in technical research and development (graduate school inclusive).
• 5+ years of experience in the development and/or operation of AMO and/or QC systems.
• 2+ years of experience serving as the leader of an advanced technical team (either task leadership or personnel management, or both).
• Direct experience with people management in the technical industry.
• U.S. Person defined as: U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status.
• Due to national security requirements, candidates must not be a PRC or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen.

Responsibilities

• Own the system-level design, build, and development responsibilities for next generation Quantinuum systems, including system architecture and integration.
• Guide technical trade studies and analyses to reduce project risks and mature concepts into concrete directions.
• Develop test plans and identify handoffs with subsystem leads across electrical, optical, microfabrication, software, vacuum, and cryogenic areas.
• Establish strategic plans for the team by defining milestones and gates with partners and identifying interdependencies.
• Own and manage programmatic execution: track progress, allocate resources, and manage risks and opportunities.
• Mentor, coach, and train direct-report engineers; plan careers and perform performance assessments.
