Job summary

HRL Laboratories is seeking a software engineer to help develop the future of quantum information technologies. You'll work on the experiment control software team to enable experiments that drive our device roadmap. The role involves building software for complex experiments and instrument control, in collaboration with physicists and data engineers.

Required are 5+ years in software, strong Python, familiarity with C++, and DB systems. U.S. citizenship for security clearance is required.

Qualifications

5+ years of software engineering experience.
Proficiency in Python.
Familiarity with C++.
Experience with at least one relational database system.
Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and computer architectures.
Familiarity with scientific test instrumentation and communication protocols (e.g., VISA, TCP/IP).

Responsibilities

Develop software for executing complex sequences of experiments, measurements and calibrations.
Develop device drivers for custom hardware and scientific instruments.
Collaborate with experimental physicists to capture requirements and ensure software supports lab capabilities.
Collaborate with data engineers to organize and store quantum device data.
Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in programming, version control, CI/CD and documentation.
