Job description

Senior Quality Inspector, Production Floor (1st shift)

Long Beach, California

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The Quality team supports all areas of production of Relativity’s hardware and defines the processes to do so. We work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, test and launch counterparts to ensure the quality of our products. We help lay the foundation for all processes within the product lifecycle – design, buy, build, test and launch. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing Quality organization and help lead the front on producing the industry’s highest quality 3D-printed parts and launch vehicle.

About the Role:

  • Conduct thorough inspections (in-process and final) on propulsion components, large structures and mechanical assemblies.
  • Use precision hand tools to perform dimensional inspections on flight hardware.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other team members to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Diligently review all hardware requirements and determine pass/fail status, documenting outcomes and any non-conformances or deviations found.
  • Routinely observe technical operations and offer guidance and/or serve as an additional technical resource.
  • Take closeout photos of large integrated assemblies upon completion of final walkdowns.
  • Use borescopes to perform FOD inspections on machined parts or other assembly cavities.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development and implementation of quality initiatives within the organization.

About You:

  • Minimum 6 years of working as a quality inspector in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive experience working closely with design engineering, manufacturing, and production personnel.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential for interacting with team members, engineers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders. This includes the ability to write clear and concise reports and documentation.
  • A high level of attention to detail is crucial for conducting thorough inspections and ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations.
  • Proficient in MRB processes, including identifying, documenting, and managing non-conforming hardware in compliance with regulatory and procedural requirements.
  • Knowledgeable with AS9100 quality management systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of configuration management, manufacturing methods, and process quality controls.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods. Must be capable of lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Willing to work overtime to meet critical deadlines as needed.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Well-versed in process development and first-time quality efforts.
  • Highly organized and able to provide structure and direction to the previously undefined.
  • Self-aware and able to influence others outside of your organization.
  • Experience leading projects or teams, even if not in a leadership role. Demonstrate the ability to take initiative and drive quality improvement efforts.
  • Airframe and Powerplant Certification (A&P).
