Job description

Job Description

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity's industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. Our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing push the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it's an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The Quality team supports all areas of production of Relativity's hardware and defines the processes to do so. We work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, test, and launch counterparts to ensure the quality of our products. We help lay the foundation for all processes within the product lifecycle – design, buy, build, test, and launch. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing Quality organization and help lead the industry in producing the highest quality 3D-printed parts and launch vehicles.

About the Role:
  1. Conduct thorough inspections (in-process and final) on propulsion components, large structures, and mechanical assemblies.
  2. Use precision hand tools to perform dimensional inspections on flight hardware.
  3. Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other team members to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  4. Diligently review all hardware requirements and determine pass/fail status, documenting outcomes and any non-conformances or deviations found.
  5. Routinely observe technical operations and offer guidance and/or serve as an additional technical resource.
  6. Take closeout photos of large integrated assemblies upon completion of final walkdowns.
  7. Use borescopes to perform FOD inspections on machined parts or other assembly cavities.
  8. Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the development and implementation of quality initiatives within the organization.
About You:
  • 5+ years of experience as a quality inspector in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive experience working closely with design engineering, manufacturing, and production personnel.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with team members, engineers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders, including writing clear and concise reports and documentation.
  • A high level of attention to detail is crucial for conducting thorough inspections and ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations.
  • Proficient in MRB processes, including identifying, documenting, and managing non-conforming hardware in compliance with regulatory and procedural requirements.
  • Knowledgeable with AS9100 quality management systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of configuration management, manufacturing methods, and process quality controls.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods. Must be capable of lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Willing to work overtime to meet critical deadlines as needed.
Nice to Haves:
  • Experience in process development and first-time quality efforts.
  • Highly organized with the ability to provide structure and direction to undefined processes.
  • Self-aware and capable of influencing others outside of your organization.
  • Experience leading projects or teams, demonstrating initiative and driving quality improvements.
  • Airframe and Powerplant Certification (A&P).

At Relativity Space, we are committed to transparency and fairness in our compensation practices. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.

Compensation is only one part of our total rewards package. We offer competitive salary and equity, generous PTO and sick leave policies, parental leave, an annual learning and development stipend, and more! For details on our benefits & perks, please visit our website.
