Job description

Senior Quality Engineering Manager — Heavy Equipment Manufacturing

Barbco, Inc. | East Canton, Ohio

Our culture

Family-owned. American-made. Trenchless industry innovators. We are expanding our product lines, modernizing our manufacturing systems, and developing our people to fuel Barbco’s next stage of growth.

The mission (bullet-first)
  • Own Barbco’s internal quality management system—design it for real-world use, implement it, and continuously improve it.
  • Keep quality upstream: define inspection points, quality gates, documentation, standards, and accountability.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and CAPA; drive continuous improvement across the value stream.
  • Administer nonconforming material, holds, rework, corrective actions, and final disposition with speed and rigor.
  • Strengthen incoming, in-process, final inspection, and product-release processes, using metrics to highlight trends.
  • Investigate field complaints, warranty issues, supplier performance, and internal manufacturing concerns.
  • Set clear expectations for supplier quality and incoming materials in partnership with Purchasing.
  • Support welding, fabrication, machining, assembly, hydraulic, electrical, and finished-equipment quality.
  • Ensure drawings, specifications, work instructions, inspection criteria, and engineering changes are correctly applied.
  • Create simple, practical documentation; train and coach teams to problem-solve effectively.
  • Promote a company-wide quality culture; exercise stop-the-line authority when a significant issue exists.
  • Enable new-product introduction and expansion into new equipment and markets.
Structure and scope
  • Report directly to senior management; operate with high visibility and cross-functional influence.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, Dealer Support, and senior management.
  • This is not an ISO certification-driven position—focus on sustainable, floor-ready systems that improve outcomes.
What you bring
  • Hands-on manufacturing quality leadership; experience creating or significantly upgrading a QMS.
  • Proven root-cause analysis and corrective-action leadership.
  • Ability to read prints and interpret specifications, tolerances, and inspection requirements.
  • Working knowledge of measurement, inspection, and calibration processes.
  • Experience partnering directly with production teams, supervisors, engineers, suppliers, and customers.
  • Disciplined organization and documentation; sound judgment for tough calls.
  • Change leadership that aligns quality with production, not against it.
  • Action bias and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, FMEA, CAPA, APQP, and supplier quality is a plus; outcomes matter most.
  • Four-year degree is helpful but not required; significant manufacturing experience, technical education, quality credentials, and proven leadership are valued.
Why you’ll thrive here
  • Direct impact—work closely with leadership, engineers, skilled craftsmen, dealers, and customers.
  • See your systems come to life on the floor and in the field.
  • Barbco is investing in: new products and equipment platforms; manufacturing capabilities; technology and business systems; training and employee development; dealer and customer support; continuous improvement; the next generation of Barbco.

At Barbco, quality means how we design it, build it, document it, improve it, and stand behind it. If you want to architect the system—not just maintain someone else’s—this is your stage.
