Job summary

BW Converting is seeking a Quality Engineer to investigate, analyze, and lead corrective actions for a wide range of manufacturing and supplier quality issues. You will collaborate with multiple departments to resolve issues and drive sustained quality improvements.

You will apply RCCA (3 Legged 5 Why) methodologies and coach teams to implement permanent actions, with emphasis on machining, assembly, and process controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with 5+ years in manufacturing roles such as Quality Engineering.
  • Experience in OEM equipment, machining, and assembly environments.
  • Experience with engineering drawings and tolerancing, engineering and manufacturing requirements.
  • Experience coaching RCCA (3 Legged 5 Why) to permanent Corrective Actions.
  • Experience working with internal & external customers to drive standard work around real RCCA.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and solve quality issues related to welding, machining, painting, assembly, testing, and supplier components.
  • Investigate and correct internal, external, and interplant supplier quality issues.
  • Coordinate containment and corrective action activities.
  • Document quality issues and quality performance for RCCA.
  • Lead process audits and other quality projects.
  • Understand engineering drawings and specifications to assess conformance.
  • Collaborate with product line teams, operations and suppliers to implement quality improvement plans.
  • Work with design engineering, manufacturing engineering, global purchasing, supply chain, and operations.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to drive quality excellence.
  • Coach and train team members in RCCA and permanent Corrective Actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

The Quality Engineer will investigate, analyze, and lead corrective action for a wide variety of manufacturing and process issues related to our internal and external suppliers of parts and components. This position will collaborate with other departments to resolve issues, prevent recurrence, and continuously improve quality culture and sustained product quality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Analyze and solve problems on a wide variety of quality issues related to manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, painting, assembly, and test as well as components in the areas of Machining, Fab/Weld, Assembly, and Supply Chain.
  • Investigate and correct quality issues for internal, external, and interplant supplier quality issues.
  • Coordinate containment and corrective action activities.
  • Thoroughly document quality issues and quality performance for Root Cause & Corrective Action.
  • Lead process audits and other quality related projects.
  • Understand details of engineering drawings and specifications to aid in assessment of conformance or non-conformance of a variety of conditions in manufactured components.
  • Work with various product line teams, operations and suppliers to facilitate problem solving, supplier corrective action, evaluation, development and communication of quality improvement plans and metrics.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in design engineering, manufacturing engineering, global purchasing, supply chain, and operations.
  • Actively support continuous improvement efforts to drive quality excellence within manufacturing operations, engineering, and Supply Chain.
  • Coach and train team members as needed in Root Cause Analysis (3 Legged 5 Why) and resulting permanent Corrective Actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 5 years’ experience in a related manufacturing role such as Quality Engineering, Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Supplier Quality, or Quality Management.
  • Experience in an OEM equipment, machining, and assembly environment.
  • Experience with engineering drawings, geometric and dimensional tolerancing, engineering and manufacturing requirements, and engineering specifications.
  • Experience with coaching and sustaining Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) problem solving process (3 Legged 5 Why – Process, Detection, Systemic), resulting in implementation of permanent Corrective Actions.
  • Experience working with both internal & external customers to drive standard work around real Root Cause Analysis with 3 Legged 5 Why as primary tool.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) problem solving process such as 3 Legged 5 Why.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of PPAP, PFEMA/Control Plans, LEAN, ISO 9001:2008/2015.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Pareto and Statistical Analysis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer items up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
  • Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards.
