About The Role:
We are seeking a QA Manager to oversee quality assurance processes to ensure that all formulated products meet quality standards, including safety, regulatory compliance, and performance. This role involves developing and implementing quality assurance policies, conducting audits, and leading a cross functional team to maintain consistent product excellence. The role also includes collaboration with the R&D and Product Development teams to ensure seamless integration of quality throughout the product development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner closely with the R&D team during the product development process to ensure quality considerations are embedded at all stages.
- Review and approve product specifications, formulations, and testing protocols to confirm alignment with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments of new formulations or changes to existing products to identify potential quality, safety or compliance challenges.
- Support R&D in developing scalable manufacturing processes that maintain consistent product quality.
- Provide guidance on raw material selection and supplier qualifications in collaboration with R&D.
- Participate in the evaluation and validation of new manufacturing partners' technologies, equipment, or methodologies, (as well as new and improved formulations).
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Quality Management System in alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate quality assurance practices throughout the product lifecycle.
- Drive the development and maintenance of quality systems, including process controls and inspection protocols.
- Develop and implement comprehensive quality assurance strategies and processes across the Formulated products category.
- Establish quality requirements for external suppliers and monitor their compliance through regular assessments.
- Plan and conduct supplier audits to ensure adherence to the Thrasio Quality Manual.
- Manage supplier quality programs, including audits, performance evaluations, and collaborative improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with Strategic Sourcing and supply chain teams to address supplier-related quality issues.
- Lead the resolution of quality issues, ensuring timely and effective responses to customer complaints and regulatory inquiries.
- Oversee the investigation and resolution of customer complaints related to product quality and implement feedback mechanisms to address potential quality issues proactively.
- Ensure compliance with relevant quality standards such as ISO 9001 and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Report on quality performance metrics and insights to senior management, providing strategic recommendations and action plans.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or a related scientific discipline
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions based on available information.
- A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 8 years with a Master’s degree, or 5 years with a PhD in quality assurance, product development/R&D, supplier quality management, or manufacturing quality, within the formulated products industry.
- Expertise in quality standards and certifications such as ISO 9001, ISO 22716 (cosmetics), and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Experience working with contract manufacturers or third-party manufacturers, including onboarding and performance evaluation.
- Understanding of formulation science, raw material specifications, and ingredient interactions.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes for formulated products, including blending, filling, and packaging.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements related to product safety and quality, including CPSC, FDA, and EPA regulations.
- Strong understanding of product testing standards and validation methodologies for formulated products.
- Understanding of risk management principles and the ability to develop and implement risk mitigation plans related to product quality and safety.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma and the ability to apply these methodologies to improve product quality and efficiency.
- Experience with Quality Management Systems and supplier evaluation tools.
- Familiarity with ERP or PLM systems for supplier quality tracking and collaboration.
- Experience with consumer complaint management processes, including complaint investigation, resolution, and reporting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Availability to travel to supplier facilities for audits, inspections, and continuous improvement projects (typically 10–20% travel)
