Job summary

Nabu Casa is seeking a Home Assistant Senior Python Integration Engineer for Hardware to own the Python software layer that connects our hardware products to the Home Assistant ecosystem. You will write integrations and device support code that enable Nabu Casa devices to work seamlessly within Home Assistant, ESPHome, and Open Home Foundation projects.

This role sits at the boundary of hardware and software, focusing on client-side integration and application layers rather than low-level

Qualifications

• Strong Python development experience with async/await, testing, and scalable patterns.
• Meaningful experience contributing to large open-source projects with PRs and code reviews.
• Experience building integrations, APIs, automation systems, or software for connected devices.
• Comfortable across software and hardware boundaries and understanding device protocols.

Responsibilities

• Own integrations and software support for products across Home Assistant and ESPHome ecosystems.
• Build and maintain Python integrations and proxy libraries connecting products to Home Assistant.
• Write Python software interfacing with device protocols and hardware peripherals for clean user experiences.
• Collaborate with Hardware and Embedded Linux teams to translate hardware capabilities into software integrations.
• Contribute to Home Assistant core, ESPHome, and related projects to support integrations and platform functionality.
• Write well-tested, maintainable, and well-documented Python code.
• Review community PRs and issues to help move contributions forward.
• Investigate and resolve software and integration issues across distributed systems.
• Maintain test coverage including unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop where applicable.
