Job summary

Talan is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a key energy trading client. You will design, develop, deploy, and support secure, scalable cloud applications and data services on AWS using Python for pre-trade workflows, market data, pricing, and analytics.

Hybrid role in Houston with visa sponsorship for TN and E-2. You will lead backend development, implement IaC, and mentor junior engineers while optimizing performance, security, and costs across large-scale data platforms.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of strong hands on, backend OOP development experience in event-driven and distributed backend services
• 5+ years of developing complex Python applications involving high volume data processing, designing and developing APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures
• 5+ years of experience deploying Python application in AWS cloud environment (i.e. Kafka, Redis/ElastiCache, RDS/Aurora/S3)
• Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance or Quantitative finance

Responsibilities

• Build and support cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions on AWS
• Develop backend services and automation in Python
• Design services handling market data, pricing, analytics, and pre-trade workflows
• Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation
• Build and maintain CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and observability
• Apply cloud security and secure software-development best practices
• Optimize application performance, reliability, scalability, and AWS costs
• Lead technical discussions, code reviews, and architecture reviews
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers
