Job summary

Talan is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - AWS / Python to design, develop, and support cloud-native applications for a key energy trading client. The role emphasizes secure, scalable data services, with AWS as the primary cloud platform and Python as the main language.

You will build APIs, microservices, and data processing pipelines, while embracing IaC, CI/CD, and security best practices across the stack.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on backend OOP development in event-driven and distributed services.
• 5+ years developing complex Python applications involving APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• 5+ years deploying Python applications in AWS cloud environment (Kafka, Redis/ElastiCache, RDS/Aurora/S3).
• Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance or Quantitative finance.

Responsibilities

• Build and support cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions on AWS.
• Develop backend services and automation in Python.
• Design services handling market data, pricing, analytics, and pre-trade workflows.
• Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and observability.
• Apply cloud security and secure software-development best practices.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, scalability, and AWS costs.
• Lead technical discussions, code reviews, and architecture reviews.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.

Job Description

The role focuses on designing, developing, deploying, and supporting secure, scalable cloud applications and data services supporting pre-trade, market data, pricing, and analytics. AWS is the primary cloud platform and Python the main development language.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and support cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions on AWS.
• Develop backend services and automation in Python.
• Design services handling market data, pricing, analytics, and pre-trade workflows.
• Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and observability.

Qualifications

10+ years of strong hands on, backend OOP development experience in event-driven and distributed backend services

5+ years of developing complex Python applications involving high volume data processing, designing and developingAPIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures

5+ years of experience deploying Python application in AWS cloud environment (i.e. Kafka, Redis/ElastiCache, RDS/Aurora/S3)

• Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance orQuantitative finance

Nice to Have

• Experience in energy trading, commodities, market data, pricing, or financial markets
• Athena, or Redshift
• C#/.NET or React or Angular
• AWS or Azure certifications
