Qualifications

A leading private equity firm is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join its technology organization. The team builds and supports high-impact software platforms and data-driven systems that enable critical business functions across the organization.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who can operate effectively in a complex environment, drive architectural decisions, and lead the delivery of large-scale software initiatives.

Position Summary

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for designing, building, and delivering complex software systems. You will work closely with engineers, product partners, and business stakeholders to define technical direction, solve challenging engineering problems, and deliver highly scalable and reliable solutions.

The ideal candidate is a strong Python engineer with deep software engineering fundamentals, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to operate independently while influencing technical direction across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and development of complex software systems.
• Drive technical direction for large-scale engineering initiatives.
• Make sound architectural and technology decisions across the software development lifecycle.
• Partner with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Lead projects from technical planning through implementation and delivery.
• Identify and resolve complex technical challenges and execution blockers.
• Establish and promote engineering best practices around scalability, reliability, testing, and maintainability.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across the organization.
• Contribute hands-on to the development of high-quality production software.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python and object-oriented software development.
• Proven experience designing and building enterprise-grade software systems.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, and database technologies.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Strong SQL and relational database experience.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives from conception through delivery.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
