Job summary
City Science is seeking a Senior Python Developer to join our energy development team. You will design and implement Python packages built on the Home Energy Model to enable the next generation of energy performance tools, collaborating with DESNZ and external partners.
You may manage one or more developers or be prepared to take that step, supported by leadership training. Fully remote with optional office access, flexible hours, and a strong decarbonisation focus.
Qualifications
- Strong professional experience as a Python developer at or near senior level.
- Excellent command of Python and its ecosystem, tooling and best practices.
- Track record building production-grade applications, ideally in data-rich or scientific domains.
- Solid grasp of geometry and physics, including building physics.
- Experience supporting growth of junior engineers, e.g., onboarding or coaching.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and improve Python packages for modelling, simulation and data processing.
- Turn analytical needs into shippable software with high quality and testing.
- Line manage one or more developers, with regular feedback and development support.
- Maintain code quality via testing, documentation and code reviews.
- Own deliverables and drive projects with urgency and accountability.
