Job summary

EXL Service is seeking a Backend Developer in a hybrid role based in Hartford, CT. You will focus on building a Healthcare Data Quality Platform, handling CCDA documents and clinical data, with an emphasis on secure ingestion and analysis.

The role requires strong Python backend experience, FastAPI proficiency, XML parsing with lxml, and knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare interoperability standards. Collaboration and robust API design are key.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years of Python backend development including production service design and deployment.
• Experience owning system architecture decisions: service boundaries, data model design and API contracts.
• FastAPI – routers, Depends() injection, UploadFile handling, StreamingResponse, StaticFiles for SPA serving; same-origin deployment.
• Strong hands-on experience parsing XML with lxml.

The successful candidate will work on a modern backend platform, responsible for clinical document parsing, healthcare data quality analysis, secure data ingestion, and integration.

• Strong SQL experience.
• Experienced in query troubleshooting such as isolating blocks of poor performing code, determining root cause and developing remediation actions.
• Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and data privacy standards.
• Strong understanding of QA methodologies, test planning, and defect tracking.
• Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge & experience in US Healthcare Interoperability, HEDIS & handling CCDA / HL7 CDA R2 document structure is preferred.
• Design-thinking & excellent verbal and written communication skills.
