Job summary

EXL Service is seeking a Backend Developer in a hybrid role based in Hartford, CT. You will focus on building a Healthcare Data Quality Platform, handling CCDA documents and clinical data, with an emphasis on secure ingestion and analysis.

The role requires strong Python backend experience, FastAPI proficiency, XML parsing with lxml, and knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare interoperability standards. Collaboration and robust API design are key.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years of Python backend development including production service design and deployment.
• Experience owning system architecture decisions: service boundaries, data model design and API contracts.
• FastAPI – routers, Depends() injection, UploadFile handling, StreamingResponse, StaticFiles for SPA serving; same-origin deployment.
• Strong hands-on experience parsing XML with lxml.

Responsibilities

• Build and enhance a Healthcare Data Quality Platform to evaluate, score, and onboard clinical data from CCDA documents.
• Work on a modern backend platform responsible for clinical document parsing, healthcare data quality analysis, secure data ingestion and integration.
