Job summary

Hachette Book Group, parent company of Little, Brown & Company, seeks a Sr. Publicity Manager to lead publicity campaigns for a dynamic list of fiction, nonfiction, mystery, and lifestyle titles.

You will manage author tours, book national/local media, and events while guiding a small team and coordinating with Marketing, Editorial, and Sales. The role requires strong media relationships, excellent organization, and the ability to travel domestically with authors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in publicity.
  • Strong knowledge of national and regional media with established relationships with key media bookers.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the media, marketplace and competition.
  • Established relationships with bookstores and some large lecture venues.
  • Ability to escort authors by car, train, or plane as needed, and travel domestically with authors when needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Familiarity with Cision, Net Galley, and Edelweiss.

  • Working closely with authors on all aspects of publicity, briefing for interviews and accompanying to engagements.
  • Strategizing media lists, creating press materials, and pitching media.
  • Collaborating with Marketing, Sales, Editorial, and Subsidiary Rights.
  • Developing relationships with booksellers and venues, including book festivals and lectures.
  • Supervising one direct report with potential for more managerial duties.
  • Planning author appearances and regional trade shows, pre-sell events and tours.
  • Liaising with Hachette Speakers Bureau, press hits memo, awards submissions, and sales team for author events.

Job description

SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Sr. Publicity Manager to join Little, Brown & Company, a division of Hachette Book Group, in a very active department within a dynamic, renowned publishing program.

This is a unique opportunity to work on a highly focused team and be a part of publicizing a list of exciting and diverse books and authors from award-winning and bestselling authors to debut authors in every genre including literary and commercial fiction, nonfiction, mystery, and lifestyle books.

Duties include:

  • Publicizing approximately 15 titles per season (30 titles a year) per season for Little, Brown, and Company and its imprints. This includes executing all aspects of a publicity campaign, including managing author tours, booking national and local media, overseeing travel arrangements, and producing events.
  • Developing and maintaining close working relationships with members of the press (broadcast, radio, print, online, trades, etc.) and seeking out new media outlets, and brainstorming creative ideas on how to best publicize titles.
  • Working closely with authors on all aspects of publicity, including briefing authors for interviews and accompanying authors to publicity engagements.
  • Strategizing media lists, creating press materials (full press kits, press releases, pitch & galley letters, author Q&A’s, talking points, etc.), and pitching media.
  • Collaborating with key in-house departments, including Marketing, Sales, Editorial, and Subsidiary Rights.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with booksellers around the country, as well as off-site and lecture events venues and book festivals.
  • Supervising and providing guidance to one direct report, with the potential for more managerial duties in the near future.
  • Planning and executing author appearances and details for Regional Trade Shows, author pre-sell events and book tours.
  • Additional department duties may include liaising with the Hachette Speakers Bureau, supervising weekly press hits memo, helping to curate and submit literary awards, and liaising with our sales team on author event requests.

The compensation range for this position is $75,000 - $95,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
