Job summary

Viridian Space Corporation in El Segundo, CA seeks a Senior Prototyping Machinist to design and stand up the company’s first in-house machine shop with 5-axis CNC capabilities. You will work with lead engineers to identify core needs and commission machinery and workflows for rapid prototyping of aerospace hardware.

You will develop and prove workflows for key parts, begin producing hardware independently, and ensure manufacturability with tight attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work independently to bring concepts to reality.
• Strong understanding of manufacturability for prototyping parts.
• Experience with metrology and quality tools is a plus.

Viridian Space Corporation is an early-stage, space technology start-up located in El Segundo (Los Angeles), California. Viridian’s mission is to commercialize a new generation of agile, refuellable satellites and to unlock commercial access to Very Low Earth Orbits, far below where traditional Low Earth Orbit satellites fly. We are looking for energetic and talented people to join our team to support hardware prototyping, culminating in the flight of our satellite with a novel plasma propulsion system.

The Role

Here is what we expect our Senior Prototyping Machinist to do in the first year at the company:

Design and stand-up Viridian’s first in-house machine shop including 5-axis CNC capabilities.

Work with lead engineers to identify core capabilities and facility needs

Commission machinery and manufacturing workflow.

Develop and prove workflow for key representative parts

Begin producing key hardware independently

Essential skills

CNC Machining and Setup (ideally 5-axis)

Prototype machining and fixturing

Metrology, GD&T, and CMM

Other skills that may be helpful

Experience with machine buildout or independent operation

Quality Assurance systems (AS9100, etc)

Machine maintenance or troubleshooting

Other manufacturing processes
