Job summary

Viridian Space Corporation in El Segundo, California, seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to craft spaceflight components, such as deployment mechanisms, and to support hardware prototyping toward flight readiness.

You will independently translate concepts into reality, run analyses, build and test parts, and collaborate closely with a small team. DoD clearance eligibility and U.S. person status are required. Equity options are available to team members.

• Familiar with FEA or similar analysis tools.
• Hands-on testing and assembly of flight hardware.

Job description

Viridian Space Corporation is an early-stage, space technology start-up located in El Segundo (Los Angeles), California. Viridian’s mission is to commercialize a new generation of agile, refuellable satellites and to unlock commercial access to Very Low Earth Orbits, far below where traditional Low Earth Orbit satellites fly. We are looking for energetic and talented people to join our team to support hardware prototyping, culminating in the flight of our satellite with a novel plasma propulsion system.

The Role

• Design and CAD mechanical concepts for space-flight components, such as deployment mechanisms, launch latches, etc.
• Demonstrate concept designs can survive launch loads in simulation
• Build and test the designed components, including qualification campaigns
• Support, design, and build of test-jigs for non-flight components

Essential skills

• Design for Flight
• FEA or similar analysis tools
• Hands-on experience with flight hardware

Other skills that may be helpful

• Experience with lifetime analysis (strain life, random vibration analysis, etc.)
• Electrical experience
• Python or other programming languages
• Communication and presentation
