Job summary

AVANGRID’s Principal Engineer – Protection & Control in Orange, CT leads the design, configuration, maintenance and renewal of protection subsystems for the electric delivery network across New England and New York.

Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to ensure safety, timely delivery, and cost-effectiveness while meeting NERC, FERC, NPCC, NYISO, ISO-NE, and state requirements. Mentoring and travel to worksites are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Technology required.
• 10+ years of relevant protection engineering experience required.
• PE license or ability to obtain certification.
• Advanced knowledge of power system analysis and protection fundamentals.
• Knowledge of national/international standards and compliance for power system protection (NERC, FERC, NPCC, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design, estimating, and analysis of transmission and substation protection systems.
• Review protection system designs and vendor work for compliance with standards.
• Develop technical specifications, standards, contracts and purchase orders.
• Direct engineering contractors and consultants on system automation & integration.
• Analyze fault events and prepare clear fault analysis reports for management.
• Manage compliance programs and act as SME during audits.
• Mentor junior engineers and cross-department staff.
• Represent the company on regional and national committees.
• Travel to worksites as needed.
