Job summary

NY STATE ELECTRIC & GAS CORP Lead Engineer – Protection & Control in Rochester, NY area oversees protection platforms for AVANGRID units in NY/ME, guiding project engineers and ensuring system reliability. The role emphasizes standards compliance (IEC, IEEE, NERC, etc.), training, and advancing new protection technologies.

The position requires a BS in Electrical Engineering (MS preferred), a PE license is preferred, and 7+ years of protection engineering experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required.
Master’s Degree preferred for advanced roles.
Professional Engineering license preferred where applicable.

Responsibilities

Guide engineering design, estimating, and analysis of protection systems in transmission and substation projects.
Develop and maintain protection platform settings, testing, and commissioning.
Lead protection engineering group across AVANGRID and coordinate with global affiliates.
Evaluate new technology to improve reliability and efficiency of power systems.
Oversee studies to evaluate equipment performance and protection system effectiveness.
Lead and mentor the Protection Engineering team and engage in regional/national committees.
