Job Title: Senior Protection & Control Engineer

Location: Austin, TX

Responsibilities
  • Lead design efforts for high voltage substation protection schemes up to 500kV.
  • Conduct detailed design of protection and control systems for high voltage substations, including single-line and three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, wiring diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, detailed bills of materials, control building and relay panel layouts, SCADA, RTU, and communications systems design.
  • Perform computer modeling and analysis of electrical systems using software such as ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, PSS/E, PSLF.
  • Execute load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analyses.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines as needed.
  • Conduct site visits for data gathering and as-builts.
  • Write material procurement and construction specifications and evaluate contractor bids.
  • Perform protective relay coordination and settings.
  • Review client equipment and design specifications to confirm conformance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Perform equipment and conductor sizing calculations, voltage drop, conduit and cable tray fill, AC loading, and battery sizing.
  • Generate engineering fee estimates.
  • Provide field support during construction and commissioning.
  • Mentor and teach less experienced engineers and design staff.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required for client meetings or site visits.
Qualifications
  • BSEE from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 10+ years of protection and control design experience.
  • Experience working directly with clients and supporting marketing proposals (preferred).
  • Experience managing a design budget and schedule (preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Legal ability to work in the United States for any length of time.
  • PE license required; ability to obtain a Texas PE within 6 months of hire.
