Job summary

Telex LLC is seeking a Senior Protection and Control Technician to support utility transmission and distribution projects in the Odessa, TX area. The role focuses on protective relaying, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting with platforms like Omicron, Doble, RTS, and related tools.

The ideal candidate has 1–5 years of field experience, strong three‑phase power system knowledge, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• 1–5 years field experience in relay testing, calibration, or substation commissioning.
• Strong understanding of three‑phase power systems and protection schemes.
• Proficiency with Omicron, Doble, Vanguard and related test equipment.
• Skilled in RTS, Test Universe, Protection Suite and Accelerator.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform commissioning, installation, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment and automation systems.
• Conduct end‑to‑end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, and RTS.
• Execute functional and scheme testing including reclosing and breaker failure.
• Troubleshoot protocols such as DNP3 and Modbus.
• Support development of standardized testing procedures.
• Collaborate with clients, vendors, and engineering teams.
• Provide guidance to junior technicians when needed.

The Opportunity

Seeking experienced Senior Protection and Control Technician to support utility transmission and distribution projects throughout the Odessa, TX area. Candidates with SEL relay testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and substation maintenance experience are preferred.

What You'll Do

• Perform commissioning, installation, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, DFRs, SCADA systems, and automation systems.
• Conduct end‑to‑end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, and RTS.
• Execute functional and scheme testing including reclosing, breaker failure, logic schemes, and communication‑assisted protection.
• Troubleshoot protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, and 8979 using Wireshark, Accelerator, and ASE 2000.
• Support development of standardized testing procedures.
• Collaborate with clients, vendors, and engineering teams to ensure reliable project outcomes.
• Provide guidance to junior technicians when needed.

Preferred Experience

• 1-5 years field experience in relay testing, calibration, or substation commissioning without direct supervision.
• Strong understanding of three‑phase power systems and protection schemes.
• Proficiency with Omicron, Doble, Vanguard, and related test equipment.
• Skilled in RTS, Test Universe, Protection Suite, and Accelerator.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel.
