Job summary

General Motors is seeking an engineer for Advanced Propulsion Engineering to lead the design of engine heads, blocks, transmission housings and battery structures. The role emphasizes collaboration across combustion, thermal, lubrication, and electrical teams to deliver next-gen vehicle structures.

The position is hybrid, requires travel up to 25%, and relocation benefits may be available. A strong background in CAE tools and multi-project leadership is essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering.
  • 5+ years in engine head, head gasket, engine block, transmission housing or battery structures development.
  • Ability to lead complex technical projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with suppliers.
  • Experience supporting vehicle programs during the launch phase to SORP.
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Familiarity with structural CAE tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead advanced technical work on cylinder head, head gasket, engine block and transmission housing concepts.
  • Develop designs through ATW phase to the Balanced Architecture phase.
  • Understand design trade-offs for engine, transmission and battery structures.
  • Be the project technical lead for advanced propulsion structures and manufacturable designs.
  • Partner with VDDV for early assessment of structure performance.
  • Support implementation teams as designs launch into production.
  • Continuously benchmark automotive tech and collaborate with startups on battery module tech.
