Responsibilities

  • Balance vehicle and propulsion hardware requirements.
  • Coordinate with vehicle, battery, drive unit, and motor teams to align hardware with customer needs.
  • Develop propulsion system to meet performance and cost targets with Cost Engineering and Planning.
  • Ensure models and designs for electrification components are accurate and high-fidelity.
  • Lead trade studies to optimize range, performance, drive quality, and cost.
  • Engage SMTs, Vehicle teams, Planning, and Finance to drive project gates.
  • Benchmark automotive tech to identify innovative EV solutions.
  • Document IP ideas for invention board review and potential patents.

The Role:

Advanced Electrified Propulsion Engineering at General Motors is a rapidly developing automotive technology organization. We are creating cutting-edge propulsion and battery systems that provide industry leading performance for future electrified vehicles. Our team is critical to achieving GM's vision of Zero Emissions, Zero Crashes, and Zero Congestion.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
  • Balance vehicle and propulsion system hardware requirements
  • Ensure requirements and hardware technology align with customer expectations by collaborating with engineers from vehicle, battery, drive unit, and motor teams.
  • Develop the propulsion system to meet key performance and cost targets by working collaboratively VDDV, Cost Engineering and Planning
  • Ensure analytical models, initial component designs and controls of key electrification systems and components have been developed with high fidelity.
  • Lead component or system trade studies to select optimized solutions to meet vehicle requirements of range, performance, drive quality, and cost.
  • Engage with other SMT's, Vehicle teams, Planning, Finance, and Electrification leadership as necessary to lead the project team through successful completion of key ATW and BA gates.
  • Continuously benchmark automotive and other industries to identify and implement innovative technologies for electric vehicles.
  • Protect intellectual property (IP) by documenting your new ideas for invention board review and subsequent patent submissions.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in product engineering.
  • Ability to lead complex technical projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to take ambiguous problems and define a tangible approach to identify optimal solutions.
  • Showcase a wide range of creativity and latitude on challenging assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, project management and negotiating skills.
  • DFSS Black Belt
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Master's degree in engineering or relevant field.
  • 8+ years of experience in electrification engineering.
