Job summary

Swiss Re seeks a Senior Property Treaty Underwriter to shape and manage a U.S.-based property treaty portfolio for major clients. You will underwrite, price, and steer risk across catastrophe and non-catastrophe structures, balancing risk and return with a strategic, market-facing approach.

You will collaborate with clients, brokers, actuaries, and leadership, guiding treaty design and pricing while mentoring junior underwriters in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 7+ years of underwriting, portfolio management or pricing-related work in reinsurance or primary underwriting.
• Expertise: Deep knowledge of (re)insurance underwriting, property market dynamics, and strategic drivers.
• Education: Bachelor's degree required.
• Communication: Ability to distill complex analyses for executive stakeholders.
• Collaboration: Build relationships across geographies and teams.
• Business acumen: Use market intelligence in underwriting and pricing decisions.
• Flexibility: Limited travel across the US for client engagement.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite U.S. Global Property Treaty business, including catastrophe and non-catastrophe structures (quota share, cat, risk excess of loss, aggregates).
• Analyze treaty submissions using exposure data, catastrophe modeling, pricing frameworks, and risk assessments.
• Assess cedant performance, portfolio composition, and structure treaties to balance risk and return.
• Review contract language to ensure alignment with underwriting guidelines and risk transfer.
• Mentor junior underwriters to support clients and adapt to market cycles.
• Collaborate with brokers, ceded re colleagues, and leadership to foster a solution-oriented culture.
