Job summary

The Scion Group in Chicago, IL seeks a Senior Property Accountant to manage general accounting for a portfolio of communities. This on-site role requires GAAP proficiency, timely journal entries, and clear financial narratives for informed decisions.

You will support onsite teams, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and collaborate with operations. A Bachelor’s in Accounting and 3–5 years in real estate accounting are preferred; local candidates eligible for base salary around $75k–$90k with

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 3–5 years of post-baccalaureate experience in accounting, preferably in Real Estate/Property Management.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with PMS systems such as Entrata is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintains general ledgers in compliance with GAAP and updates monthly.
• Prepares monthly journal entries.
• Analyzes and prepares monthly financials for assigned properties.
• Executes monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Researches and reports financial and operational variances.
• Reviews revenue and contracts monthly.
• Reviews month-end financials prepared by the Property Accounting Team and provides insights to Directors and Managers.
• Supports Operations team regarding financial performance of properties.
• Manages monthly accruals, TRS entries, ground leases and CapEx tag consistency.
• Responds to auditor inquiries as requested.

This position will manage general accounting functions for an assigned portfolio of Scion’s communities, providing excellent service to our onsite teams and interpreting financial narratives for effective business decisions.

The Senior Property Accountant will work in a fast-paced, agile, corporate environment. This position demands curiosity, an eye for detail, and a drive to provide support to others.

This position is based out of our central office in Chicago, IL and is fully on-site.

Responsibilities

• Maintains general ledgers in compliance with GAAP and update monthly.
• Prepares applicable monthly journal entries.
• Analyzes and prepares monthly financials for assigned properties.
• Executes monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
• Researches and reports financial and operational variances.
• Reviews revenue and contracts, monthly.
• Reviews month end financials prepared by the Property Accounting Team. Provide insight into variances to the Directors and Managers.
• Provides support to the Operations team as needed, regarding financial performance of assigned properties.
• Responsible for monthly accruals, TRS entries, ground leases and completeness of Cap Ex review and proper tags.
• Responds to auditor inquiries as requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 3-5 years of post-baccalaureate work experience in an accounting function; experience in Real Estate or Property Management is a plus.

The base salary range for this full-time position is base + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
