About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Property Accountant to play a leadership role on our accounting team. In this position, you'll oversee financial reporting across our residential portfolio, ensuring accuracy and timeliness while contributing to smooth, efficient operations.
This role is pivotal in driving financial integrity, ensuring regulatory compliance (including RECA standards), and fostering a high-performing accounting team. From daily operations to month-end close, you'll deliver meaningful insights to leadership, support strategic decisions, and contribute to the success of our growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for Zen's residential portfolio
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of property accountants, fostering professional growth and accountability
- Review and approve property accountants' work, ensuring accuracy and alignment with internal standards and timelines
- Ensure ongoing compliance with RECA regulations and act as the audit focal point during RECA audits
- Facilitate owner financial requests, including custom reporting, analysis, and clarification of financial results
- Work cross-functionally with property managers, vendors, and tenants to maintain seamless accounting operations
- Drive the onboarding and offboarding of properties from a financial and accounting perspective, ensuring smooth transitions
- Develop and enforce accounting policies, internal controls, and standard operating procedures in line with GAAP and industry best practices
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage all aspects of audit readiness
- Support the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis process
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, asset management, and executive leadership to support business strategy and compliance
- Lead initiatives to streamline reporting processes and improve accounting systems for scalability and efficiency
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- CPA designation (or equivalent) strongly preferred
- 3-5+years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong background in full-cycle property accounting (residential property accounting preferred)
- Proficiency in property management accounting platforms, such as Yardi, Buildium, or similar
- Strong Microsoft Excel and analytical skills
- High attention to detail and a drive for accuracy, integrity, and process ownership
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
